End of 2009 Wrap-Up and What’s Ahead

twitrpix_rev2As 2009 starts to come to a close, we’ve tallied a lot of the feedback over the last few months to bring you a new look (mostly) for TwitrPix. We also took a hard look at what some of our competitors were doing and made sure we didn’t follow in those footsteps.

The new changes reflect a very clean and simple approach to photo sharing on Twitter. We’ve cut out a lot of the clutter that detracted from the photo viewing experience. We also removed any advertising from our site. Yes, TwitrPix (at the moment) is 100% ad free. Unlike some of the other sites, we didn’t think it was necessary to bombard users with ads. Instead, we will be developing strategic relationships that provides benefits to our visitors. We’re not focused on CPMs, we’re focused on our users.

We’ve also worked hard to squash any bugs that were brought to our attention. Some of our users were extremely helpful in working out some issues, and we thank them. Having users who are not only helpful, but willing to make TwitrPix better is great. We’ve streamlined the code that runs behind the scenes and we are really happy to say that our site is faster than any of our competitor sites. While we think its fast, we also think we can make it faster.

From many of the blog posts in the past, you can see that we’ve been hard at work reaching out to developers to get TwitrPix integrated into many of the Twitter apps available for desktop and mobile phones today. The amazing thing about this process is being able to reach out to developers and share our ideas. While we still have some ground to cover, we are really thankful for the openness they have shown us. As of today, TwitrPix is available in 18 different applications. This is a huge milestone and as part of the redesign we wanted to thank them as much as possible. With that being said, we’ve added a “Featured Twitter App” panel on the home page and on the photo detail pages. This is a rotating feature panel and its just our way of saying “Thank You.”

Moving TwitrPix into the browsing experience is just another extension. Over the last few months, we developed a cool Firefox add-on called “TwitrPix Express for Firefix” which has been installed by over 4,700 Firefox users. Its a free add-on which let’s you share any photo from any web site on Twitter. If you ever find yourself wanting to share a quick photo, you can with just a single-right click. We’ve seen people use it to share breaking news stories and some users have transfer photos from another photo sharing site to TwitrPix using it.

2009 was the year we launched our service with the goal of making it completely transparent to the experience of sharing media while also making it very intuitive to use. 2010 will be the year that we start to roll out a lot of the big features that you’ve been asking for. While they are already in development, we can’t disclose what they are — but they are all based on feedback from you. It’s going to be really exciting. If you would like to see a new feature, as always, simply email us or send us a direct message on Twitter. We’d love to hear your ideas.

Continue to share your holiday photos on TwitrPix and have a great and safe New Year.

Happy Holidays!
Jerry, Walter, and the entire TwitrPix and Cando team.
