TwitrPix Update for 10/14/09

We recently made some UI changes to TwitrPix to make the process of viewing and sharing photos easier and simpler. Based on user feedback which is extremely important, we reworked the photo detail pages and removed a lot of elements to make the photo the most important.

We’ve also removed advertising from the site (our choice) as we redesign most of the site. After looking at what our competitors were doing, we came to realize that at some point many of the sites in our space started to litter their pages with ads. Now I do understand the importance of generating revenue as this IS a business. But at some point you have to find a balance between integrating ad zones and not distracting the user.

Another feature that was recently added was being able to edit the meta data for your photos which includes the caption and tags. You also have the ability to Tweet the update so your friends and family will know you’ve made the changes. It’s a really simple feature, but we also noticed that it is missing on some of our larger competitor’s sites. Honestly, we overlooked it but thanks to our vocal users, we’ve added it.

Finally, a very small feature which we’ve received feedback on is avatar updating. People have been using TwitrPix for sharing photos, but a good number of them have also been using TwitrPix to backup their mobile photos — we think that’s a great use for the site as well. With that being said, the feedback we received essentially came down to how can they update their Twitter avatar with one of their TwitrPix photos? Another case where it makes perfect sense. You’ve probably taken some really great photos, its only natural that you’d want update your avatar with it.

So now there’s a new feature called “Set Avatar.” Just log into TwitrPix and navigate to any of your own photos. You’ll see the “Set Avatar” button. When you click it, we request that Twitter changes your avatar to that specific photo. The actual update may take a few minutes and we also send a Tweet on your behalf indicating that you’ve updated your avatar.

Within the next 14 days we’ll have 2 very important new features being added to TwitrPix. These are the really big ones that we’ve been getting feedback on.

Stay tuned.
